What is this all about?
We've heard many users complaining that it's hard to integrate phpBB3 forum to Joomla environment - especially when it comes to avatar syncing. We've created instructions of how to do this for both popular community systems - Community Builder and JomSocial. The integrator provided below helps you to integrate Joomla and phpBB3 forum. It is neither a module nor a plugin, i.e. you can't simply install it. Rather it's set of files and a detailed instruction of what has to be done to have a more sophisticated site. However, the overall setup is very easy. You should only create a couple of new fields in either CB or JomSocial and overwrite the existing files.

Main features
Basically you‘ll achieve several things by using this integrator
- Avatar syncing. Avatar from your CB or JomSocial user profile is displayed on phpBB3 forum topics.
- Several fields syncing. City, website link, age and Skype icon from your CB or JomSocial user profile is displayed on phpBB3 forum topics.
- Profile linking. When user clicks on avatar or user name in the phpBB3 forum, the link takes him to the corresponding user’s CB or JomSocial profile page instead of taking to the phpBB3 profile.

The Integrator package (v1.6, updated March 15, 2010)
The downloadable package contains files and detailed instruction. For those in a hurry skim through the instruction, create a couple of new fields in CB or JomSocial configuration and overwrite existing files with the ones provided in the package. If you want to make some customizations yourself or want to get the idea of what was changed take a more deeper look at the instruction.
Requirements
You need the following components to be installed:
- Joomla (version 1.5.9 or newer - 1.5.14 preferred)
- phpBB3 (version 3.0.7-PL1 or newer)
- Optional software for login synching (chose one of these)
- Software for user management (chose one of these)
- JomSocial (version 1.1.145 or newer)
- Community Builder (version 1.2.0 or newer)
Current version of the Integrator is 1.4. The integrator was updated on August 29, 2009 and is based on the most recent versions of the products. However, it should work with older versions too.
